One of the most important tasks of any school board is negotiating employee compensation and the terms and conditions of employment. Because employee compensation comprises the largest expenditure in a district’s budget, it is essential that the school board ascertain the current and projected costs of salaries and benefit. This process is called “costing out” the labor agreement. Participants in this session will learn how to cost out the labor agreement and make sure that expenditures for employee compensation are consistent with the board’s management goals.
