Reciprocal Teachers: Parent-Sponsored Enrichment Programming

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Campbell School has transformed its learning culture through different programming initiatives. One way this is accomplished is through the Parent-Teacher Organization's Whole School Enrichment Program entitled, "Spring Extravaganza." This program focuses on a particular theme or topic, such as "How It Works - STEM Lessons for Our Students." Then, about 125-150 parents volunteer their time to choose a topic aligned with the theme, plan lesson presentations, and prepare for "Spring Extravaganza Day." On the day before Spring Break, parents conduct a full-scale takeover of the school and present these enrichment lessons to visiting classes. Parents step into the teaching roles, while teachers learn along with their students. This session will walk participants through the program's development, implementation, and lessons learned on how to better implement the program in years to come. This successful venture has transformed the school community and develops closer connections between the school and home. Attendees will gain insight and receive the tools necessary to replicate this program within their own school or district setting.
