Nearly sixty percent of New Jersey high school graduates who go on to four year colleges do so out of state. New Jersey ranks number one among states in the percentage of millennials living at home with their parents, and millennials are the number one outmigration group from the state. Consider our investment in K-12 education to prepare this future workforce: an average cost of $19,000 per pupil, times thirteen years. The return on this investment should be that our millennials want to stay here for college, careers and to raise their families. To do so, New Jersey must be attractive and affordable to them. NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka discusses these important issues and how partnerships among higher education, government and business are working to solve them.
