Transition to Adulthood: Community-Based Instruction in Public High Schools

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights has developed a comprehensive program of classroom-based instruction, school-based experiences, community internships and paid employment in an effort to significantly increase employment and independent living opportunities for its students with disabilities post-high school. This program will provide participants with a framework for developing a transition program that successfully supports students with mild, moderate and more significant disabilities. Presenters will provide helpful tips for working with child labor laws, OSHA, bargaining unit contracts and employer concerns. Participants will leave with a clear understanding not only of best practice, but also with a plan for taking these practices and creating successful, comprehensive programs in the public high school setting.
