REMINDER: Attendance at training sessions, unless pre-registration is required, is first-come basis. Creating an agenda via SCHED or the mobile app does not guarantee a place in the session.
The U.S. Supreme Court held long ago that students and teachers "don't shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate," but is there a right to wear a confederate flag to school? A "Trump" hat? A "Black Lives Matter" T-shirt? May teachers express opinions when discussing current events? Should students be permitted to do so, in class or the school newspaper? Should a Neo-Nazi Club be permitted? If so, should a teacher be permitted, or required, to serve as advisor? Board attorneys will discuss these questions and others, testing the limits of free speech in public schools.
