Promoting School Safety and Security in Changing Times
School safety has become the most important work of our time. Emergency operations planning between school leaders, business administrators, emergency responders and school staff is a continuous process. Since September of 2014, and in accordance with the School Security Task Force recommendations, the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning has conducted over 700 drill observations throughout the state of New Jersey. During these visits, best practices are shared to improve safety and security protocols. In this session, representatives from OSPEP will present common measures to promote school-wide safety practices to heighten school security postures and discuss elements to develop a school-wide reunification plan.
